The Facebook Fan Page Challenge

by Daniel in General,Special

Facebook_like_thumbIt’s time to start a Facebook page or at least get them back off the ground again (like me) and start posting to your fans. Don’t you think fans is a star studded term for A list mega stars? They should have called it ‘Facebook community page’ but I guess that sounds a little boring doesn’t it?

Anyway we have a small challenge ahead of us and it is to create a Facebook fan page and drive some traffic. I will be posting the results here of peoples pages and hopefully we can get some community going in the comments section which will help each other get their pages off the ground. If you have any questions, please post in the comments section.

For this challenge I will be using Like Page Domination as it’s discounted to $4.95 at the moment and is packed with info to help get our pages off the ground. Please take a look below at the video walk though. As you will see it’s jam packed with FB tools to help create a launch FB pages. If you don’t want to use Like Page Domination, then that is also fine. If you already have a page, then this is great if you can help in the comments section of with any questions or addition comments it would be very well received.

Video 1

Ok, let’s get to work with the walk though

Why use a Fan page?

Did you know that the average Facebook users spend 40% of their time on the  News Feed? They also spend upto 55 minutes per day talking and browsing on Facebook! Here are some reasons why you should create a Facebook fan page:

1. Reach – FB has a huge market of approximately 600 million users and 50% of these login every day. The average time online is a little over 50 minutes and next to Google, the second biggest site in the world. Ask yourself, why would you not want to be part of this?

2. SEO Capability – Google indexes your fan pages, not your personal profile posts. Take advantage of this it’s always nice to have more traffic from Google.

3. Open pages – I have segregated my friends list to split personal friends and online friends. I feel by doing this I have lost a lot of reach to my subscribers and online friends. By having a dedicated page, people can always find you and join in without having to friend you or ask for permission like some groups. This once more can expand your subscriber base.

4. Customizing – You can customize your page with different apps, which can be used to increase your pages functionality. Your fan page can essentially be an extension of your own website with added multimedia options such as video and audio.

5. Branding – Your Facebook page allows you to brand your page with your own logos and personal content much like your own timeline. However as I explained earlier, your page can be a separate entity from your personal page allowing segregation from online business friends and family.

6. Tracking – All fan pages have analytics attached to then which allows you to track all page demographics and reach. This is a good tool to track your performance.

7. Fan base – Your friends list has a 5k limit as far as I know. If you have a fan page you can have unlimited likes. Obviously this is a good thing when it comes to building your business and expanding your overall reach. If you are serious about building a business then a fan page is essential to avoid any limitations. I have posted an image of my old page below which as you can see needs some work:

Screen Shot 2013-02-21 at 15.43.24

As I mentioned in the walk through we have a full week at creating out fan pages, so I will be updating this post all week to see how we all go during the challenge. If you have any questions or you have completed the challenge please post in the comment section and we can deal with these as we go! If you like the idea of the challenge then please share and let people know what you are doing.

Lets create some pages!!

Ok, we are back with a new page! Why? I stupidly locked myself out of my own page and deleted my admin access. I tried to contact FaceBook to no avail, so I decided to create an all new page which you can see below.

Screen Shot 2013-02-26 at 19.18.11

Why did I decide to create a new page?

1. I got the chance to get used to the new tools

2. I got to choose a new name

3. I discovered some new apps

4. It made me research other peoples pages and get new ideas Take a look at the video below where I explain all about my new page, the sources I used for research and a very interesting find which I believe is going to be a big game changer.

Video 2

The coming week should be interesting when using the pages to gain interest, adding some new apps, also the Bloggers Roadmap sales page and news letter app should be cool. All it takes then is to generate some interest :-)

The final Video! How did the creation go and what exactly did I create?

Video 3

The big question now is did you create a page?

Lets start with the pages we have below. Please feel free to visit and like the pages of the people in the challenge:

For this challenge I used Like Page Domination it’s $4.95 and packed with info to help get our pages off the ground!

Hi Dan, this looks like a great product, so I got a copy through your link. I have a fan page I built for myself through Fast Fan Pages, but I do need to build another for the new membership Steve King and I are launching next week so thought I’d give your challenge a go! You are right, fan pages are valuable business assets and certainly worth spending some time on to get them right. Thanks for the challenge, see you on the other side!

Enjoy the journey.

Hi Dan
I operate a diversity of websites ranging from “home business” (writing for a living) to my first preference business, “sustainable living” (a broad niche, but one where I have a lot of experience and knowledge – more on that at a later time). Several weeks ago I thought I’d get on the right side of FB, and so I established a separate FB business page that integrates my business interests.

As part of my education in all things FB, I looked around online and found some great info. SEOmoz is one source. Their stuff is always very informative.

Des
The aspect I want to do is to build my fan base, but my “bag”, so to speak, is fully loaded and I just can’t take on another course. I’ve written about this in blog comments … even at your blog I think.
So, my question is … what’s the difference between John Thornhill’s Like Page Builder and the present offering Like Page Domination?

Reply

Daniel February 22, 2013 at

Without going into a full review Des LPB is more of a done for you. LPD is a training course which looks at all the aspects of Pages and the marketing side of pages as well. I have LPB, but I feel LPD gives a little bit more on the understanding of Pages.

Hope this helps Des.

Don’t tell Dave Nicholson I said I liked LPD more :-)

Thanks for the walk through nice video looking good. What’s the difference between a fan page and a group? Witch is better? Do you need both?

Thanks for the answers.

Hey Zora,

Ok, This is what FB say – “Facebook created Pages when we noticed that people were trying to connect with brands and famous artists in ways that didn’t quite work on Facebook…Not only can you connect with your favorite artists and businesses, but now you also can show your friends what you care about and recommend by adding Pages to your personal profile.”

Basically when you become a fan of a person in our case, that information is posted on the wall of the person who likes you, and their friends might see it too. You can also see which Pages your friends are fans of on their profile as well. This allows you to create a community around your fan page. When you share info everyone who is a fan can see it and also people on your time line. It expands your reach and influence.

Pages can also host applications, so a Page can be more personalized like a time line to show more content. Groups can’t do this.

Groups do offer more control over who gets to participate as it is a group rather than a personal page. Permissions settings make it possible for group admins to restrict access so that new members can be approved which makes groups more of a club so to speak.

There is not one better than the other, as they are both different. However IMO it’s easier to get people to like your page than join your group.

Hope this helps Zora, let me know if you need more info and I’m sure I can source some for you.

Hi Dan,

I already have a Facebook account and a couple of FB pages. But I must confess I still am not clear on the understanding of the two. For example, when joining the FB groups we must sign in with our personal FB pages, right? So what good are the fan pages in these situations

Does John, in his Like Page Domination, goes through the differences and the different uses of each, tabs and the sort of nuts and bolts for the inexperienced users.

I just can’t get the hang of it. I am looking for something that will really set me straight.

Looking forward to your answer

Hi Dita,

I haven’t got to that bit of the training yet. As far as having to login to groups with personal account yes, as for as I know you have to.

My aim is to advertise my FB page on my blog and email broadcasts to create interaction with people. Yes you can use your regular personal account for this, but I do want to separate the two from personal friend and family to business friends and family. With a page you can also add apps to make it more interactive from a business point of view e.g.advertising external content links such as youtube etc.

As for your question what good are pages when signing into a group? I guess I when you are part of a group you have to be yourself and use your own profile so you can interact with others in your group. When people in that group look at your profile they will see your page, this will give them the option to join. You can also advertise your page in your group to if the admin will let you.

I hope this helps, as I am a little new to this to Dita.

Hey Dan,

I finally made it, sorry for running so late getting over here.

Okay, so I have a fan page although I still have less then 600 followers but that’s okay with me actually because I get a LOT of interaction on my page. Oh yeah, you know me. The question queen and we have so much fun.

Anyway, I had taken a course toward the end of 2011 and wanted to understand more how I could get more fans. Once I created my fan page then I wrote a post welcoming people to come join and by the end of that week I had almost 100 fans. So that’s something to keep in mind for all those who are new wanting to introduce theirs to their readers.

Anyway, it sounds like a great product and I’m sure it would benefit me as well but right now I’m really working on another area but will definitely follow along and root you guys to fan page success.

Looking forward to seeing everyone’s fan pages and if you need me to like them, I’m in! Anything I can do to show my support.

Good luck and have fun this weekend at the sea life complex with the kids. Sounds like fun. I’ll be heading to the art museum on Sunday to meet my step-son. See, it’s not all work for me either. ;-)

Thanks Fine Adrienne, you don’t get punished for lateness over here :-)

Yes, you are the question queen and I love the way you interact with your page fans as well. As you know I’m over there sometimes for your questions.

I think you have the fan page nailed Adrienne, so I guess you probably don’t need this at the moment. However you are very welcome to place your page here and I will ad it to the post which contains the links at the end of the week.

Creating a post about a fan page is cool. This what I would like to gain by the end of this one. Everyone here interacting with each other.

Have great weekend Adrienne and enjoy the Art museum.

Don’t forget your link :-D

Hi Lynn, yes you can. I actually deleted myself from the last page I created. I couldn’t avoid laughing at the second video when you said “disaster struck” or something like that haha sorry! But I have learned that whenever we do something not too smart, there’s always something good that can happen in return.

So you’re starting fresh and I think it’s good man, maybe you had a lot of unresponsive peeps there anyway so meh just get the new one done (which already looks great btw!)

I’m buying this through your link and even though my time is very limited my fan page sucks so this will be a perfect excuse to get that one up to date!

Hi Dan,
uhhh so sorry about your admin situation. You know you can name other people as admin and it is a great idea to do that just in case. Facebook can actually lock you out of your own page if they so desire . Some of my Facebook Buddies have 5 or 6 admins just for this reason.
Note to self…get another admin on my Fan Pages.
I have 2 Fan Pages…one generic for internet marketing training and the other for my primary MLM business…I’m leaning more towards building the internet marketing Fan Page at the moment.
